  3. Pneumatic Wrench

Often referred to as nutrunners, pneumatic multipliers generally use a stall type air motor to drive a high ratio gearbox to achieve high output torques. Supplied with a calibration chart and regulator unit this allows the operator to set the air pressure to the target torque the tool is required to reach. The tool will stall or shut off once it has reached this torque.

Supplied with soft start triggers to aid socket and reaction location these tools are non impacting and feautre a handle which is independent of the gearbox rotation for optimum operator safety. These are generally offered in pistol grip style with stated accuracies of +/- 5% with the choice of  stall or shut off versions.

Standard reaction arms are supplied with every tool with a variety of alternative reaction arms or nose extensions available to suit different applications. When necessary these can be made to order.

Available with single air motor design or twin air motor options with fast rundown and slower torque motors running simultaneously to suit a large range of customer requirements.

Atlas Copco Pneumatic Multipliers

Available in several versions which are “stall”, “shut off” or “Multitorque”.
Stall type offers greater operator choice over the desired torque setting and the tool continue tightening until it stalls or the operator releases the trigger.
Shut off features a shut off valve to control the predetermined torque at which point the tool shuts off the air supply.
Multitorque has up to four preset torque available to the operator which are selected by turning the rotary knob on the rear of the tool which is ideal for multistage tightenings.

FAQs
  • What is Torque?

Torque is a “turning” or “twisting” force and differs from tension, which is created by a straight pull. However, we use torque to create a tension.

  • How does Torque Work?

As the nut and bolt are tightened, the two plates are clamped together. The thread angle in the bolt converts the force applied into tension (or stretch) in the bolt shank. The amount of the tension created in the bolt is critical.

  • Why Use Torque Products?

A bolt tensioned properly works at its optimum efficiency and will resist coming undone. However, if the tension is too low, the nut could vibrate or work loose. If the tension is too high (overstretched), the bolt could break. Every bolt has a correct optimum torque/tension figure for each fastening application. It is important to have these figures available so that the end product will be safe, efficient and economical.

  • How to Measure Torque?

Torque is the result of multiplying the value of Force applied by the Distance from the point of application.
